Eye Knee Records was born in the early days of the plague. Bored, broke-ish, broken and mired in the basic wreckage that was the hallmark of the spring of 2020, Holly Miranda & Amb. Parsley, long time collaborators and sister-friends were given refuge in a small pottery studio(that also boasted a treehouse)in Woodstock NY.
There, in an effort to pay bills in a strange new world, they began filling orders for custom songs. They wrote danceable odes about anything their clients wanted: sharks, cats, Quantum Leap, Entomology and Zamboni’s were but a few of the themes they were hired to explore. While Parsley worked on her Spanish, sanded floors and incessantly spoke in rhyme, Miranda took a deep dive into playing super hard chords and learning iMovie. The videos she crafted for songs like “Time Traveling Sharks” and “Pushkin(the ginger cat)” revealed her to be an even bigger nerd than was previously believed.
Patterns were established. Rituals: a song, a story and a little movie once a month. This is how Eye Knee Records came into the world.
Inside each tiny environment lives: a song, a video and a short story. It is a musical magazine of sorts. Because each release feels like a prayer, EKR also tithes. 10% of the proceeds from each issue are given to a charity, cause or community. To date, EKR’s released 22 such curiosities and with great excitement has also expanded their roster, signing: Elegant Too, Lisa G. and Stunning Timeless Friends.
Then in the summer of 2021, Elissa Young was brought in to steer the ship as President of EKR.
